Summit Description

 

This summit will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn the clinical, morphologic and genetic spectrum of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) from a world-renowned faculty. The program will explore the diverse views on the natural history and assessment of risk for sudden death.

 

Who Should Attend

  • Practicing cardiologists, internists, pediatricians and other health care professionals with an interest in HCM.
  • Clinicians and basic researchers directly involved with cardiomyopathies.

 

Summit Overview and Objectives

  • Identify the clinical, morphologic and genetic spectrum of HCM.
  • Explore the diverse views on the natural history and assessment of risk for sudden death.
  • Review contemporary management strategies for high-risk and other patient subgroups, including surgical septal myectomy, alcohol septal ablation, pacing, and prevention of sudden death with implantable defibrillators.
  • Assess and determine appropriate management of heart failure and arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachyarrhythmia.
  • Identify mechanisms responsible for adverse clinical events and natural history.
  • Learn the role of new diagnostic modalities including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), and advanced echocardiographic techniques.
  • Understand the significance and occurrence of left ventricular outflow obstruction.
  • Learn to detect and profile HCM in athletic populations.

Tuition

Tuition includes summit materials, breakfast, lunch and refreshments. Advanced registrations are required and will be accepted until Thursday, October 1. To ensure a comfortable environment, attendance may be capped; early registration is recommended.

Cancellation Policy

 

Substitutes for registered participants are accepted but must be arranged in advance by contacting Deanna Bulthuis at 612-863-3839 or HCMSummit@mhif.org. Cancellations should be submitted in writing prior to Thursday, October 1, by emailing HCMSummit@mhif.org or faxing 612-863-3801. An administrative charge of 25% of your tuition payment will be retained and a confirmation sent to you. No refunds will be issued for cancellations received after Thursday, October 1, 2009.

All continuing medical education activities are subject to cancellation. In the event that this summit would have to be cancelled, Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation is not responsible for any airfare, hotel or other costs incurred by participants. In the event of an emergency, we reserve the right to cancel a session or substitute a qualified speaker.
